Frequently Asked Questions

  • First-time Client: What Do I Need to Bring to My First Appointment?

Dog: Collar, leash, proof of rabies (a screenshot or photo works just fine), and treats, especially for puppies! We don’t carry our own treats because of the amount of pets we have with allergies/health conditions so please bring your own if you’d like your pup to have them :) If possible, please make sure your dog potties outside prior to entering the salon.

Cat: A carrier, proof of rabies (a screenshot or photo works just fine), and treats if you’d like your cat to have them during their groom :)

Feel free to also bring in photos of any specific cuts/styles you like and we can discuss at drop off the specific haircut that we will do, based on your preferences, the condition of the pet’s coat/the specific hair type, and the pet’s behavior during grooming.

  • How Long Does Grooming Take?

This can vary widely by the species/breed/service, but most dog baths are about an hour, dog full grooms are about 1.5-2 hours, and dog nail trims/face trims/al a carte services are about five minutes. For cats, brush outs and spot shaves are about 15 minutes, lion cuts 30 minutes, baths 45 mins-an hour, and nail trims are about five minutes.

We do schedule based on estimated time so when you book, pay attention to any texts that come through to see the estimated duration of the service, and we will also quote you at drop off! We do try to send a 15 minute heads up text before we finish as well, so you always know what to expect, however with cats, a heads up isn’t always possible and we may text you instead right away when we finish.

  • How Does Cat Grooming Work?

The vast majority of the cats we see are not on consistent grooming schedules and often come in for the first time as older cats who have suddenly started matting. Because of this reality, we do primarily maintenance grooming for cats, rather than more time intensive, stylized grooming.

What this means is that our primary concern is to remove matting, followed by nail trimming, followed by perfecting the cut, or optional bathing services. Many cats can get overwhelmed during the process, even if we are quick, so we prioritize comfort over vanity.

We utilize two groomers for cat grooming services - one to hold and one to cut. This reduces the stress and length of time for grooming, making it quick and easy for everyone. We do have options for different lengths but please realize that when we are cutting dirty hair, the longer we cut, the more uneven it may be.

  • Are Walk-In Appointments Accepted?

We are by appointment only and that means if we don’t have something scheduled, we often will take breaks, go eat, or go home. Our posted hours are roughly the days and times the shop is consistently open but when we get last minute cancellations or no-shows, things can be a bit up in the air. For this reason, we don’t typically recommend walk-ins, but we are usually more than happy to accommodate if the schedule and timing allows!

The easiest way to check is just to send us a quick text before heading over.

  • What Should I Make Sure My Groomer Knows at Drop-Off?

We love when owners warn us about any new lumps, bumps, aggression issues or sensitivities. For example, “Bella jumped off the couch last night and hurt her front right paw. She seems fine now but just so you know in case.”

We also love inspo photos but are perfectly comfortable if you tell us “whatever you think is best” too.

Lastly, we groom one on one so we will verify the correct number to text for pick-up and really appreciate a heads up if for some reason you won’t be able to pick up your pet right away.

  • What if I Have an Aggressive Pet?

Please let us know ahead of time.

Depending on the type of aggression or difficulty, we have specific groomers or days/times we can recommend to meet their grooming needs.

For dog aggressive dogs, we typically recommend Wednesday evenings for grooming, but we may also have other times available as well.

Post grooming, we will go over with you how your pet did as well as specific recommendations for how to make future grooms more positive.

  • Rough Pricing Estimates by Breed/Service

We charge by the hour and timing is dependent on the dog’s size, behavior, the specific cut/style, and the condition the dog comes is in when they come. Because of this, pricing can vary, but below is an average pricing list by breed just to get an idea of what it may be for your dog. Feel free to text us a photo of your dog to get a more accurate quote!

Chihuahua: $40-$60 for bath, $60-$80 for full groom

    Pitbull: $60-$80 for bath

German Shepherd: $80-$120 for bath/full groom

Shih Tzu/Mini Schnauzer: $80 for bath, $100-$120 for full groom

    Aussie/Golden: $120-$140 full groom

Average Poodle/Doodle: $120-$140 for bath and clean up, $160 for full groom

XL Poodle/Doodle: $140-$160 for bath and clean up, $180 for full groom

Great Pyr/Newfie: $240 for full groom

  • What is Included Each Service?

Our full grooming services are all-inclusive so there are no extra charges for additional services except time. Things like anal gland expression, teeth brushing, and ear plucking/cleaning are not standard, however, so please let us know at drop off if you would like these things as part of the groom. We err on the side of minimal intervention unless specifically requested and understood.

The reason for this is that research has shown that the more times you express a dog’s anal glands, the weaker the muscle becomes and the less likely the dog will be able to express on their own later. This causes the dog to be dependent on the expression and if they miss an appointment or something happens where they aren’t able to get regular expressions, a very painful and costly rupture can result. Similar research has shown that ear infections and unbalanced Ph in ears can also be caused by unnecessary plucking and cleaning - but of course other research argues the opposite. For ears, we typically just recommend that whatever you have been doing, if it isn’t causing issues, keep doing that.

For dogs with significant tooth decay and gingivitis, teeth brushing can also be harmful. Teeth brushing is best when done daily, but we do have supplies and are more than happy to do it upon request (for dogs that it is safe to do it for).
